Lady Captains' Triathlon Challenge, raises over £2000!

The Ferndown Golf Club Ladies Captain has kindly chosen John’s Foundation as her charity of support for 2023 and the ‘Triathlon with a Twist’ was her most recent fundraising event.

This was a fabulous most innovative idea which provided a fun challenge for so many of the members and raised an incredible £2101.20 in the process. It was a real team effort with 20 people taking part. In addition there was a Support Team organising and managing the event, marshalls all along the route and an army of supporters cheering the participants on.

Triathon with a Twist

A team of six ladies met at Ferndown Golf Club on Friday 14th July and ran the baton 7K to Moors Valley Country Park.  The runners are pictured above very wet but very happy to have completed the first leg.

Here another team of 6 (pictured above) picked up the baton and took on the Go Ape Tree Top Challenge.

This is the biggest and most demanding Go Ape high ropes experience and certainly put a few nerves to the test (especially John’s mum, Linda, who has a fear of heights).  The ladies clambered 11m skywards and were challenged by tricky tree-to-tree crossings and five incredible zip lines – one of which included a skateboard! The final zip wire was the lengthy Tarzan Swing which was completed with a fair amount of relief, as after more thank two hours in the trees everyone was chilled to the core and wet through. The ladies must all be congratulated for completing the course in such trecherous conditions. The pouring rain and high winds certainly made it a day to remember!

The Go Apers then passed the baton to the final team of 8 cyclists.

The last leg was be a 5-mile cycle, finishing back at Ferndown Golf Club.

What a superb event it was, extremely well organised, a lot of fun and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. The torrential rain was not really in the plan, but it certainly added another element of difficulty to the challenges. The Team success and the personal triumphs of many of the team members were an important aspect of the challenge. Personal boundaries were definitely pushed, and targets accomplished, all a direct result of the Triathlon with a Twist.

This challenge brought a lovely bunch of people together who provided a tremendously friendly supportive atmosphere. Our special thanks must go to all the participants for their determination to complete the challenges in such awful conditions and to the supporters for their sheer commitment to encourage the team.

The kindness of all those friends and family who have supported this challenge so generously has been completely overwhelming. More than £2101 has been raised, which is a staggering amount and a truly fantastic achievement.

The money that was raised will be used to provide bursaries and scholarships to young people from a wide array of youth organisations directly supporting their personal development and the pursuit of their ambitions. It will make a big difference to many young lives.
