The JTYAF have been contacted by the production team behind BAFTA nominated British war film, Kajaki. The True Story. 

We are honoured that the team has asked to use an extract from John's diary (which is now on display at the Imperial War Museum) at the DVD launch event in June.

Tasha is taking on the challenge of 12,000ft skydive to jump with the Tigers in aid of the JTYAF in August. 

Tasha is the owner of Cortex Hair Design in Southbourne and was a classmate of John's at school.

The 15 mile route started at the Barley Mow Inn at Colehill and took cyclists along the beautiful East Dorset country lanes to finish where they started, back at the Inn.  Families, leisure cyclists and several experienced riders took part.

George, a young member of the Dorset Expedition Society, has been awarded a grant towards a Trans Andes Expedition to Ecuador this summer. He was chosen for the team after a gruelling selection weekend in Dartmoor to test both mental and physical endurance along with his leadership skills and motivation.

24 Dorset and Wiltshire Air Cadets have been awarded funding to support The Nijmegan International Four Days March. It is the largest multi-day walking event in the world with Royal Patronage with more than 42,000 participants walking 100 miles over 4 days in Nijmegan and the surrounding area.

About Us

The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) was set up in memory of John Thornton who was tragically killed in Afghanistan in 2008. 

The JTYAF provides opportunities for young people to help them to develop as individuals and fulfil their ambitions in life as John was able to do.
