The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation has supported the Coda Fiddle Orchestra for five years, providing music scholarships for students who have been assessed as showing above average ability. 

Presenting awards to the students at Ferndown Upper School (FUS) is the best day of the year for the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF).  

Winter sports are certainly in the news at the moment with GB achievements in the Winter Olympics and we have recently made one of our first awards of 2014 to support a local young lady who is determined to get to the next Games in 2018. 

The JTYAF is delighted to be able to encourage the uptake of music lessons for orchestral instruments by offering bursaries which will cover lessons for three terms and also exam fees. 

The four Qualified Junior Leaders (QJL’s) selected for this years JTYAF funded expedition to trek to Everest Base Camp, were Joseph Champion, Christopher Cresswell, Callum Reid and Roderick Mountain.  

The JTYAF was privileged to provide the funds for a life changing volunteering project for six Air Cadet Junior Leaders (JL's)  from Course XIV.  

Alec Cottrell is an outstanding cadet from 2185 (Wareham) Squadron and has recently completed a competitive selection process for a place on a Qualified Aerospace Instructors Course (QAIC) with the Air Cadets.  

Jake Dove is an exceptional leader and recently achieved his Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award.  

Annabel Macklin is working towards her Duke of Edinburgh's Gold award and has been selected to attend the Sound and Music Summer School at the Purcell School of Music. 

The Dorset and Wilts Wing Air Training Corps Training and Development Squadron (TDS) provides a range of courses aimed at developing leadership and other personal skills for cadets across the Wing.  

3rd Ferndown Brownies will be visiting our capital city in July thanks to the JTYAF who will be funding the mini bus to take them on this great adventure. 

Nicole Tait is a member of 149 (Poole)  Air Training Corps and has been lucky enough to be selected to attend a ten day camp at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus. 

Fenella Houlton and Beth Dooley are taking to the seas as part of the assessment for their Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award.

Four lucky Fire Cadets who recently passed out from the Christchurch Dorset Fire and Rescue Service Cadet Scheme, have been selected to travel to Germany this summer as part of the European Cadet Exchange. 

The 97th Four Days Marches, from 16th to 19th July, covers a total of 100 miles and for the third year running the JTYAF will be providing funding for the Dorset and Wilts Wing Team of 12 cadets to take part in this event.

Cadets Aaron Clarke and Luke Baines from 149 (Poole) Squadron ATC together with Muhammad-Rusydi Azmi  from 2491 (Lyneham) Squadron are fortunate to have been selected to attend Jersey Camp this Summer and the JTYAF is pleased to be supporting them. 

The JTYAF is delighted to support Leah Lambourne, Alice Driver and Georgia Flood who will be taking part in a Duke of Edinburgh's Silver Award Expedition in the Quantock Hills this Summer.

Chloe Davis and Celia Jones are excited about their forthcoming adventure.  They will be taking part in a canoeing trip with the Girl Guides from their Boathouse in Poole, which will take them along the beautiful River Wye.  The JTYAF is delighted to support them.

The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) was delighted to be invited to present awards to ten pupils at Ferndown First School.

The JTYAF funding awarded to the Air Cadets Junior Leaders Course in 2013 will support two projects and benefit ten Qualified Junior Leaders (QJLs) from Course XIV.  The selection of the successful applicants was based on the quality of their application combined with their performance on the course.
